International Society of Appraisers (ISA)

The International Society of Appraisers (ISA) is a nonprofit professional association. The association has more than 13,000 members worldwide. ISA offers a variety of services to its members and the public. Services include education, networking opportunities and continuing education programs.

ISA’s mission is to advance professionalism in the art and antiques appraisal industry through:

  • advocacy
  • education
  • legislation
  • and research.

ISA was founded in 1970 by a group of appraisers who believed that there was a need for professional guidance in the appraisal field. Since then, it has grown into one of the largest organizations for appraisers in the United States. Isa has more than 1,600 chapters across the country.

Through its Professional Standards Board, ISA provides certification programs for people interested in becoming art or antiques appraisers. The PSB establishes criteria for certification based on both experience and education requirements. This ensures that all ISA-certified appraisers have met certain standards in their field before they are allowed to use their title professionally.
